We believe adequate clothing is a basic human need.
Northland Clothing Center (formerly Clay County Clothes Closet) contributes to the dignity, self-respect, and hope of people residing in the Kansas City (MO) Northland by distributing clothing free of charge.
Northland Clothing Center (formerly Clay County Clothes Closet) was founded to distribute clothing free of charge to help meet the basic human need of adequate clothing for every person we serve. Clothing is essential:
Protection from the elements
Clean, well-fitting clothing boosts self-image
Appropriate clothing for education and employment
Shoes and clothing contribute to an opportunity to transition out of poverty
What we wear is an integral part of making a first impression. We want everyone we support to experience confidence and dignity in their work, play, school, and everyday living.
Appropriate clothing for job interviews and the workplace can be vitally important to a person’s ability to obtain and maintain employment.
School is challenging enough for young people as they navigate socially, even in ideal conditions. We believe all children and youth need clean, properly-fitting, comfortable, and updated clothing so that worry is alleviated.
Adequate clothing is the foundation that most of us need for sustainable independence in our society. Every wardrobe we give away is a gift of dignity that we give with love and care.
